Pousada de Viseu, Rua do Hospital, 3500-161 Viseu; 232-457-230, https://www.pousadas.pt. – check this web site for deals at pousadas throughout Portugal; some are offered only if you book on a Tuesday. In Viseu, we bypassed the pousada restaurant and ate at the cheaper (4 euros for some entrees), homier Restaurante Hilario, Rua Augusto Hilario 35, 232-436-587.

In little Silves, we enjoyed great seafood at Marisqueira Rui (6 to 15 euros), Rua Com Vilarinho 27, 282-442-682, and the hipper ambience of Café Inglês (6 to 14 euros), Rua Castelo 11, near the town’s hilltop castle, 282-442-585
Casa Costa do Castelo, Costa do Castelo #54/4th andar, 1100-179 Lisboa; 218-822-678, https://www.c-c-castelo.com. Lisbon boasts many recommended restaurants; we liked the Indian food at Tamarind (8 to 16 euros), Rua Glória 43, 213-466-080.
