2 people sought after man stabbed at Motel 6 in Costa Mesa

A 25-year-old Newport Beach man was taken to a hospital after being stabbed at a Costa Mesa motel during an argument early Monday, according to police.

Officers responded to the Motel 6 in the 2200 block of Newport Boulevard just after 4 a.m. when someone reported that a man was bleeding, Costa Mesa police Lt. Paul Beckman said.

When officers arrived, they found the injured man lying at the top of a flight of stairs at the motel, Beckman said.

After watching surveillance video and interviewing witnesses, police said they think the stabbing occurred after an altercation between the man and a woman.

The woman left after the altercation, but soon afterward a white Dodge Charger pulled up and another man got out, police said.

He confronted the first man and a fight started, with the 25-year-old ultimately stabbed in the torso, according to authorities.

Paramedics took the stabbing victim to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. He is expected to survive, Beckman said.

Police said they haven’t determined a motive for the stabbing or whether the two men knew each other.

Beckman declined to say whether the stabbing victim had been staying at the motel.

Authorities are looking for the other man and the woman. Police described then as in their mid-20s.

Police also are looking for the Charger. Its license plate number is 7GGU549, police said.

Authorities asked that anyone with information about the case call Det. Rob Dimel at (714) 754-5363.
