COSTA MESA — The No. 4-seeded Lions were upset in the first round of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament by No. 5 Biola Wednesday.
Marco Ruvalcaba scored an unassisted goal in the 77th minute for the Eagles (11-5-2).
Vanguard (12-7) outshot Biola, 14-9. Lions goalie Cody Adams had three saves. Kyle O’Brien had three shots, while Kevin Cornwall and Nikola Ilich had two shots each for Vanguard.

COSTA MESA — Karlee Riggs finished with 18 kills and 10 digs in the Pirates’ 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 Orange Empire Conference win on Wednesday.
Dana Nicholson contributed 10 kills and three service aces for the Pirates (14-2, 9-1 in conference), who trail undefeated Golden West in conference play.
