Fall class registration opens
Enrollment is now available for the Laguna Beach Senior Services and Irvine Valley College Emeritus Institute Fall 2007 classes. Classes will be from Aug. 20 through Dec 14.
New this fall is a class on Art History. Other offerings include: Yoga; Stretching & Strengthening; Body, Brain & Fitness; Aquatic Fitness; Dayan QiGong; Beginning & Advanced Watercolor; Advanced Creative Writing; Nutritional Cooking.
To register, pick up a registration form at the Laguna Beach Senior Center, 384 Legion St., weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or call (949) 464-9535.
‘Frauds and Scams’ discussion
Laguna Beach Seniors will hold a lunch meeting, 11:30 a.m. Aug. 13 featuring a presentation on “Frauds and Scams Targeting Seniors” presented by Community Services Officer Coleen Walloch.
To make a reservation, call (949) 497-2441. Lunch is available for those 60 years and older for a donation of $3.50 or for $5 for those under 60 years. The presentation will be at the center, 384 Legion St., lower level dining room.
Summer luau coming up
Laguna Beach Seniors are planning a “Summer Luau” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at the center, 384 Legion St.
This outdoor event includes a Hawaiian style lunch, hula dancing by “Halau Hula O Lei Mohala” and a demonstration of an easy to learn hula dance. Audience participation is encouraged.
Suggested donation: $3.50 for those 60 years and older or cost of $5 for those under 60 years. To make a reservation, call at (949) 497-2441 no later than Aug. 14.

Opera Pacific docent to lecture
Laguna Beach resident Doris Leffingwell, Ph.D., an Opera Pacific docent, will present an introduction to the three operas to be performed during the opera’s next season: “La Boheme” by Giacomo Puccini, “The Magic Flute” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and “Susannah” by Carlysle Floyd.
The lecture will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Aug. 20 in the lower level of the Laguna Beach Senior Center, 384 Legion St. To reserve a space, call (949) 497-2441.
