Boy says man in sedan offered him candy

The Newport Beach Police Department is looking for a brown-eyed, 30- to 40-year-old man suspected of child annoyance in the Eastbluff community.
At 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, an 11-year-old boy was walking on Vista Bonita when a man driving a 4-door, dark-colored midsized sedan pulled alongside him. The subject, wearing a black beanie and dark blue T-shirt, rolled down the passenger window and offered the boy candy.
The boy ran home and told his father, who notified the police.
Investigators do not suspect there is a connection between Tuesday’s incident and similar disturbances in the Harbor Ridge community last month, adding the subject and vehicle descriptions do not match.
“It sounds like it’s somebody totally different,” Sgt. Evan Sailor said.
Anyone with information about the incident should call (949) 644-3776 or (800) 550-NBPD. Messages can be left anonymously.
