Rohrer hosts Halley exhibition

Rohrer Fine Art, 346 North Coast Highway, will present an exhibition of new work by painter Peter Halley alongside aluminum furniture by mid-century master Warren McArthur.

The exhibition opens with an artist reception from 5 to 7 p.m. July 14, and runs through Aug. 12.

Peter Halley’s paintings consist of brightly-colored blocks of color embedded among rectangles and squares of contrasting colors, which he calls prisons or cells.

Halley has painted in this post-minimalist style since the 1980s when he and a group of his contemporaries, dubbed Neo-Geo, began painting pure geometric forms reacting against and referencing earlier generations.

All the pieces in the exhibition will be for sale. This exhibition is curated by Chip Tom, and the Warren McArthur furniture is courtesy of Nick and Shaunna Brown.

Bartels bench debuts in Palm Desert

Taylor Woodrow Homes, the developer of Palm Desert’s new master-planned development Spanish Walk, unveiled a public art display Wednesday inspired by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi at the entrance to the community on the corner of Frank Sinatra and Gerald Ford Drives.

The “Gaudi bench” is one of five public art displays created by Laguna artist Marlo Bartels in the Coachella Valley.

Bartels is also responsible for many other public art displays in Southern California, including the Renaissance Tower in downtown Los Angeles.

Spanish Walk is an 80-acre planned, gated community.

Participants also enjoyed a presentation given by former patients of the hospital and their parents.
