CBS announced Tuesday that it is seeking families for a new show that will focus on different communities from across the country. In the list of luxury towns? Malibu. Beverly Hills. Laguna Beach. And Newport.

The show is being produced by the company behind “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Teachers union to host endorsed candidatesThe Newport-Mesa Federation of Teachers will hold a meet-and-greet this afternoon with the three school board candidates that it is endorsing in the November election.

From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Karen Yelsey, Sandy Asper and Michael Collier will meet voters, give short speeches and answer questions. Yelsey and Asper are running against longtime incumbents Serene Stokes and Judy Franco, while Collier is running for an open seat.

The event will take place at the union’s office at 2900 Bristol St., Suite C-107 in Costa Mesa. Union President Jim Rogers said his group sent an invitation to every teacher in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, but all others are welcome to attend.

Newport candidates to square off againThe West Newport Beach Assn. is holding a candidates debate from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight in the council chambers at 3300 Newport Blvd.

The debate will be divided into two parts. The first will include candidates in Districts 1 and 4, the second 5, 6 and 7.
