‘Eaters eighth at regional

TUCSON, Ariz. ? The UC Irvine men’s golf team slipped to eighth place Friday on the second day of the NCAA West Regional at the Tucson National Golf Club.

All-Big West Conference first-team selection Brian Edick led the Anteaters, shooting a three-under-par 69 for the second straight day. Edick is in 10th place individually at six-under-par 138.

As a team, UCI shot four-under-par 284 Friday to finish the day at nine-under 567. Host school Arizona leads the field with a 552 through 36 holes, followed by North Carolina State and Florida at 555.

The top 10 teams after today’s final round will advance to the NCAA Championships May 31 through June 3 at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.

Among the rest of the Anteaters, Kenny Kim shot one-under and is tied for 22nd at 140, Garrett Sapp tied for 38th at 142, Derek Uyesaka is in 88th at 148, and Tim Cha is 100th with a two-round score of 150.

Utah’s Dustin Pimm remained the individual leader, shooting four-under-par Friday to finish at 10-under-par 134. Nathan Spoon of North Carolina State is one shot behind Pimm.

UCI is making its fifth appearance in the West Regional in the last six years. The Anteaters last reached the NCAA Championships in 2001, after finishing third in the regional.
