UCI’s Steen captures 800

WALNUT ? UC Irvine senior Amber Steen won the women’s 800-meter race with a time of 2 minutes, 12.96 seconds Saturday at the Ben Brown Track and Field Invitational at Mount San Antonio College.
Freshman Samantha Costantini was third in the women’s 1,500 in 4:45.32 and Anteater teammate Marie Nguyen was fifth (4:48.22).
UCI freshman Solomon Seleshi-Tesfaye was fifth in the men’s 1,500 in 4:01.34.
UCI sophomore Amber Gordon was sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:59.6).
UCI freshman Sky Johnson was seventh in the men’s 800 in 1:57.24. UCI’s Ross Gierczak finished second in the Section 2 800, posting the ninth-best time of the day (1:59.90).
Freshman Jamie Schwab was 10th in the women’s 1,500 with a time of 2:23.05.
UCI’s Alexis Dawkins topped the Section 2 field in the 1,500 with a time of 2:23.32, 11th fastest overall.
In the men’s 1,500, UCI freshman Rusty Whisman ws 11th in 4:05.32 and UCI’s Brian Lopez won the Section 2 event. Lopez’s time of 4:06.17 was 12th overall.
The Anteaters’ men’s and women’s teams return to action Friday and Saturday in the Northridge Relays.
