“Catwoman” pranced over to Newport Beach this week as Hoag Hospital
once again teamed up with Regal Entertainment to present a movie
premiere to the local crowd.
More than 1,000 guests turned out Wednesday evening for a light
supper in the Edwards Cinema parking lot at Fashion Island, followed
by a screening of “Catwoman,” starring Halle Berry. The annual movie
premiere is a project of Hoag’s 552 Club, with proceeds from the
evening earmarked for the Hoag Women’s Pavilion expansion project.
Jim and Patti Edwards co-chaired the gathering, with Mark Hardtke
serving as vice chair, supported by a hard-working committee of Hoag
devotees, including Lin Auer, Margaret Lord, Terry Callahan, David
Meyer, Arlene Howard, Gregory Miles, James Johnson, Diane Mondini,
Tom Johnson and Dave Snowden. Also supporting Hoag 552 and the movie
event were John Sturgess, Alan Beyer, Rush Hill, Debbie Simon and
Margaret Von Tiesenhausen.
The local crowd celebrated the fifth anniversary of Roy’s Fashion
Island in appropriate aloha style. Hula dancers, an abundance of
purple orchid leis and a fabulous tropical menu specially created by
Chef Roy Yamaguchi, who flew in from the islands for the party, made
for a special summer evening on the Orange Coast.
Lido Isle’s John and Anne Wortmann arrived with Cheri and Randy
Schoch, in from Scottsdale, Ariz., as Polynesian drums were beating
at the valet station. The Wortmanns and Schoches exited their car as
servers presented them with Hawaiian martinis. A five-course dinner
followed, prepared by local star chefs Richard Mead, on loan from
Sage, and Azmin Ghahreman, executive chef of the St. Regis in Monarch
Beach, following the creative culinary design of Roy Yamaguchi. More
than 250 Newport-Mesa guests dined on apple pancetta crusted bass and
black mushroom crusted loin of lamb, all Hawaiian-style.
