Dwyer names new assistant principal
The Huntington Beach City School District board appointed longtime
Surf City resident Claudia Ross as assistant principal at Dwyer
Middle School. She will begin on Aug. 18.
Ross, who will be leaving El Rancho Middle School in Orange, has
been an assistant principal in the Orange Unified School District for
the past six years. She is especially familiar with the Huntington
Beach area and is ready for a new endeavor, she said.
“I’ve lived in Huntington Beach for 30 years and I always follow
the Huntington Beach schools,” she said. “When I found out there was
an opportunity to work in my community I decided to take on a new
challenge.”
Ross was chosen from a field of 125 applicants. The second
interview was more significant and exciting since it took place at
her potential new school’s campus with Principal Duane Cox and Kathy
Kessler, the assistant superintendent.
“I remember looking out the window at the ocean and hoping that it
would be my new home away from home,” she said.
Ross is very excited, but filled with mixed emotions since she is
leaving a great staff, she said. She is, however, hopeful to find the
same success at Dwyer Middle School.
