Five Lions named to Academic All-GSAC team

COSTA MESA - Five members of Vanguard University’s fall athletic
programs, Erin Bongiorno, Robin Callahan, Matt Swift, Jessica Waltz and
Beth Weidler, were named to the Academic All-Golden State Athletic
Conference team.
Requirements for the Academic All-GSAC include having a junior or
senior academic standing with at least a 3.5 grade point average.
All five athletes will be nominated for the NAIA Scholar-Athlete
award, which has its own qualification standards.
Bongiorno, a member of the VU women’s soccer team, is a junior
majoring in anthropology and has a 3.83 grade point average, second
highest among all GSAC women’s soccer players.
Callahan, a teammate of Bongiorno, is a physical therapy major with a
3.72 GPA.
Swift plays men’s soccer at Vanguard and is a junior majoring in
exercise sports medicine. His 3.83 GPA is second highest among all GSAC
men’s soccer players.
Weidler is a junior liberal studies major for the VU women’s cross
country team and has a GPA of 3.56.
Waltz, a junior, played women’s volleyball for the Lions and compiled
a 3.81 GPA as a liberal studies major.
