Fignetti wins Seniors event

Huntington Beach’s Rick Fignetti won the Senior Division event last

weekend as United States Surfing Federation West Region held the final

contest for its 1999-2000 championship tour on the north side of the

Huntington Beach Pier.

Fignetti won the event, called the Hoppy Swartz Memorial Contest, in

3-5 foot surf. Competitors from around the state were vying for overall

division titles.

A six-time West Coast champion in Seniors, Fignetti won last weekend’s

event in a competition that also featured overall division winner T.J.

Even (Ventura) in second place, and a fourth-place finish by Huntington

Beach’s Danny Ray Le Master.

In the Grandmasters Division, Richard Eldridge of Huntington Beach

placed fourth.

Fignetti, Le Master, and Eldridge were the only Surf City athletes to

place among the top four in 13 divisions of competition.
