CERRITOS - Estancia High, making its seventh straight postseason
appearance, will open the CIF Southern Section Division IV boys soccer
playoffs Friday as the No. 2 seed.
The Pacific Coast League champion Eagles (15-1-1), who have outscored
opponents, 93-9, will host the winner of Wednesday’s wild-card game
between Northview (15-7-1) and Pomona (11-7-1).
The Eagles will be joined in the Division IV draw by Corona del Mar,
while Newport Harbor earned a berth in Division II, with pairings
announced Monday at the section office.
CdM (10-6-1) embarks on its first postseason since 1994 when it hosts
Diamond Ranch (11-8-3) Friday.
Harbor (7-7-5), which finished third in the Sea View League, hosts
Anaheim (7-10-4) Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. in the wild-card round.
If victorious, the Tars, playing their first playoff game since 1997,
would visit No. 2-seeded El Dorado (25-4) Friday.
Estancia, keyed by high-scoring senior forwards Esaul Mendoza (33 goals)
and Cesar Terrones (29), is bidding for its second section crown. It won
the 2-A title in 1985.
“We’re going all the way this time,” Coach Steve Crenshaw said.
