Readers React: Don’t blame the guns for police mistakes

To the editor: It is a poor workman who blames his tools. There is a simple rule of gun safety: Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. (“Why the police shouldn’t use Glocks,” op-ed, May 7)
A Glock “Safe Action” pistol has three internal safeties. The gun will not go off unless the trigger is pulled. Furthermore, the Glock’s trigger pull can hardly be considered short; as a matter of fact, it is a double-action trigger.
Each of the examples Bob Owens uses to question the safety of Glock pistols were gun safety issues. And I am all for training our police officers more.

To the editor: Even if the Glock is faulty merchandise or at least inappropriate for the police to use, would it be paraphrasing to say that guns don’t kill people accidentally, people do?

To the editor: How can we get to zero police shootings? Police not wearing guns cannot shoot people. Let’s learn from Britain and other countries on this.
