Jerry Seinfeld and other stars turn up for David Letterman’s last show

David Letterman’s last show finally arrived Wednesday - and so did the stars who came to pay homage.
Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Carrey, Tina Fey, Chris Rock, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin and Peyton Manning were, according to news reports, among those who battled their way to the stage door of the Ed Sullivan Theater in midtown Manhattan, where the last “Late Show with David Letterman” was due to be taped on Wednesday afternoon.
A throng of fans crowded the sidewalks outside the theater, where Letterman has hosted the show since 1993.
Letterman is retiring after 33 years in late-night TV. He has hosted 6,028 broadcasts on CBS and his previous network, NBC.
CBS promised only “surprise guests,” but the musical act was confirmed to be Foo Fighters, the rock band led by Dave Grohl, which is a longtime Letterman favorite.
The show’s Twitter account, meanwhile, promised “free balloons for the kids!”
The hashtag #ThanksDave was trending on Twitter.
