A 43-year-old man was taken to the hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest following a two-hour standoff with police in a Huntington Beach school parking lot, authorities said.
The man’s condition was not disclosed Sunday evening.
Police had received a call from a person concerned that the man was driving drunk, said Lt. Dave Bunetta.
Officers followed the driver from Magnolia Street and Adams Avenue to Newland Elementary School, a few blocks away, where he sat in his car and talked to police on his cellphone until he hung up and shot himself, authorities said.
