My enjoyment of the film “Broadcast News” was greatly hampered by William Hurt’s anchorman character, which completely lacked credibility. Impossible, I kept thinking, that such a pea brain could be so apparently articulate and self-assured. Then I saw John Schubeck’s smirking face on the cover of the Jan. 24 issue (“Broadcast News, L.A.,” by Dennis McDougal).
I wish now that I had remembered Schubeck at the time. It would have made the film plausible.
