Local News in Brief : Fire Smokes Out City Hall
- Share via
Fire at a construction site outside Beverly Hills City Hall sent billows of smoke into the landmark building Thursday, forcing the evacuation of 75 to 100 employees and seven jail inmates, authorities said.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which officials said was set when a welder’s sparks ignited construction materials on the east side of the building.
One woman was taken to a hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, Beverly Hills Police Lt. Robert Curtis said.
Employees milled about the palm-lined front lawn for about an hour before returning to work after firefighters used fans to blow smoke out of the 57-year-old, Spanish baroque building.
