The Pacific Symphony has announced its first series of summer concerts at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre. Keith Clark, whose contract is not being renewed by the orchestra, will conduct three of the five programs.
The series will begin July 4 with Morton Gould conducting his own works and works by Bernstein, Copland, Ives and Gershwin. On July 16, Clark will conduct a program of Romantic pieces including Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony. On Aug. 6, in a program that will mark the official opening of the Orange County Centennial Celebration, Clark will conduct Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, with chorus and soloists to be announced. Steven Gunzenhauser of the Delaware and Lancaster (Pa.) symphony orchestras will conduct “popular classics,” including Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony, on Aug. 27. The series will end Sept. 10 with Clark conducting a “Tchaikovsky Spectacular.”
