LISBON — Angola’s UNITA rebels said Wednesday that they killed 41 government troops and three Cubans and shot down a MIG-21 fighter in three separate actions Sunday.
A statement by the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola, distributed in Lisbon, said the Cubans and 23 government soldiers were killed in an ambush near Quinquenge in the western province of Benguela.
The fighter was shot down in Bie province, about 150 miles to the east, according to the statement.
