Local News in Brief : Order on Irwindale Audit

A temporary restraining order prohibiting the state auditor general’s office from examining Irwindale city books was kept in effect Wednesday pending a new court hearing April 7.
The audit is being sought to determine if a $10-million cash advance to the Los Angeles Raiders exceeded voter-imposed spending limits. The cash advance was one of the inducements the city offered to persuade the Raiders to move to Irwindale.
Pomona Superior Court Judge Thomas Nuss ordered the case transferred to Rancho Cucamonga in San Bernardino County after attorneys for the state and the city could not agree on Riverside as the site for a state-requested change of venue.
Assemblyman Mike Roos (D-Los Angeles), a foe of the Raiders’ proposed move out of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, originally requested the audit, which has now been held up for more than a month. Irwindale officials allege that the audit represents political harassment of the city.
