British travelers will no longer need a visa to visit the United States by next year, officials in both countries said. The decision soothes a long-standing British irritation, since Britain does not require U.S. visitors to have similar visas. British travelers will need only a valid passport and a return ticket for a stay of up to 90 days. A visa will still be required to live or work in the United States. The change is part of a pilot program to drop visa requirements for eight countries, beginning with Britain and Japan. The other countries were not identified.
