The federal government has reopened its earthquake disaster loan program to include Los Angeles-area residents who suffered damage in the Feb. 11 aftershock.
Residents and owners of small businesses have until March 10 to apply for loans of up to $100,000. The interest rate is either 4% or 8% and recipients have up to 30 years to repay the money.
The deadline for applications for assistance stemming from the Oct. 1 earthquake passed in December, and a total of $81 million in loans to 5,000 homeowners and businesses has been approved, according to Coe Wilkins, spokesman for the Small Business Administration, which oversees the program.
Loan applications may be obtained at the SBA office at 9350 Flair Drive, El Monte, or Bank of America branches at 160 E. Main St., Alhambra; 330 S. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood, and 7255 Greenleaf Ave., Whittier. The SBA may be reached at 1 (800) 468-1713.
