Swaggart’s Revelations Timely for ‘Carnage’

The Jimmy Swaggart revelations coincided with the reopening of a Los Angeles satire about end-of-the-world preachers, “Carnage,” presented by the Actors Gang at the Tiffany Theatre on the Sunset Strip.
“Swaggart was one of the people we watched incessantly when we were putting together the piece in workshop last summer,” said director and co-author Tim Robbins. “He inspired us much more than Jim Bakker.
“It makes us feel real good that we’re doing a piece about something that should be exposed,” said Robbins.
“It was divine destiny,” corrected producer Patty McGuire. “As for using the Swaggart thing as a promotional tool for the show . . . I don’t think so.”
