Joe Williams, Big Band Jazz Series at Arts Center
- Share via
A series of Big Band jazz concerts at the Orange County Performing Arts Center will sport more than a bit of Basie.
Joe Williams, who made a name for himself in the 1950s as bluesy singer for the Count Basie Orchestra, will be one of the featured singers (along with Helen Forrest) on June 5 at the first show in the four-part series. The current incarnation of the Basie Orchestra, led by Frank Foster, will appear on Sept. 29 with Diane Schuur, a Grammy-winning singer.
The July 10 show, “A Salute to Tommy Dorsey,” will feature singers Frankie Laine and Connie Haines. The fourth concert, “4 Girls 4,” will present the vocal combo of Helen O’Connell, Rose Marie, Kay Starr and Margaret Whiting, on a date to be announced.
Subscription tickets will be sold at the end of March and tickets for single concerts four weeks before shows.
