The San Diego Opera and its faithful support network of local guilds are hosts of the 13th annual conference of Opera Guilds International this week at the Westgate Hotel. General Director Ian Campbell will welcome the delegates at tonight’s opening banquet, which will follow an obligatory day at the zoo. At the Saturday night performance of San Diego Opera’s production of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore,” delegates will be able to judge the proof of the Campbell pudding.
Opera Guilds International is an organization of more than 100 volunteer opera support groups from across the country. Among the group’s conference speakers are David Gockley, general director of Houston Grand Opera, and international Verdi authority Charles Osborne.
