Noriega and Drug Smuggling

I’ve read with some amusement our government’s pious pronouncements against Noriega. How quickly we have forgotten last summer’s Iran-Contra revelations about the Contra drug smuggling scheme. Apparently our government allowed the Contras to smuggle and sell drugs in the United States to raise money for their cause. Some concerned individual in the White House even went so far as to issue a “hands off” order to the U.S. Customs Service apparently to steer them clear of this drug smuggling activity.

So, Mr. and Mrs. America, sit back and watch the high comedy about to unfold. But do keep all this in its proper perspective. Our government’s drug smuggling was done for the sacred cause of anti-communism which makes it all right--doesn’t it?
