A bus carrying the Anaheim Kennedy High School girls’ basketball team was shot at as it returned from a Southern Section playoff game against Edgewood of West Covina Saturday, according to Mike Murphy, Kennedy assistant coach.
Murphy said the bus was traveling south on the 605 Freeway in the Whittier area when he heard “a loud snap,” and saw the bus windshield shatter.
No one was injured, Murphy said. A spokesman at the Anaheim Union High School District Transportation office confirmed the bus had been shot at, but offered no other details.
Murphy said the bus driver, whom he could not identify, pulled the vehicle over and radioed for another bus from the Anaheim Union High School District. Players and coaches were put aboard the new bus and driven home.
