If you live in Santa Ana Unified School District, here’s your chance to help name some new schools.
The district has lists of proposed names for three new elementary schools planned for construction later this year. Residents are being asked to write or call with their comments on the proposed school names. The school board will make the final decision at its March 8 meeting,
Comments may be made by calling Assistant Supt. Anthony Dalessi at (714) 558-5578 or by writing to Name That School, 1405 French St., Santa Ana 92701. Dalessi said that five proposed names for each new school were culled from about 70 proposals residents gave the school district earlier.
Locations of the new elementary schools and their proposed names include:
- West Santa Ana Boulevard at West 5th Street--Amelia Earhart, Edith M. Gilbert, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Louis Pasteur, Junipero Serra.
- 807 E. Bishop St.--George Washington Carver, Calvin Coolidge, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Charles Lindbergh, Adeline Walker.
- 1400 W. Cubbon St. at Hesperian Street--Alexander Graham Bell, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, John Philip Sousa, Harry S. Truman.
The Santa Ana district is among several that solicit proposed school names from the public.
