POP LP CHART : Taylor on the Move, ‘Skyscraper’ Still Rising

James Taylor is proving that he’s not just a concert artist. Fans still buy his albums, too. In only three weeks, his “Never Die Young” vaulted up to No. 34 on the Billboard magazine pop album chart. David Lee Roth’s “Skyscraper,” the only album showing significant movement in an otherwise static Top 20, is up to No. 6. “Let it Loose,” by Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, is on the rise again after 37 weeks on the chart, jumping from No. 51 to No. 39. The reason is renewed interest in the album due to the hit single, “Can’t Stay Away From You”--No. 10.

* The sound track from Robin Williams’ hit “Good Morning, Vietnam” movie--for which the actor just got an Academy Award nomination--is also a surprise hit, climbing to No. 25 in four weeks. The album is getting a boost from one of the most unlikely hit singles in years, a Louis Armstrong oldie, “What a Wonderful World”--which is No. 58.
