WINTER OLYMPICS : ABC Viewers Miss Seeing 2 U.S. Goals

NEW YORK — Viewers watching the U.S.-Czechoslovakia Olympic hockey game on ABC Monday night didn’t see two of the first three goals live because the network was showing commercials at the time.
The U.S. team jumped out to a surprising 3-0 lead in the first period, but the only goal seen live was the second one. ABC showed the other two goals on tape after returning from commercials.
ABC spokeswoman Cathy Rehl said there are no timeouts in Olympic hockey, so there is always a chance a goal will be scored during a commercial.
“We have to guess the best time to go to commercial,” she said. “It’s called take your best shot.”
