Two women were shot and wounded when a bicyclist took out a semi-automatic pistol and sprayed a crowd with bullets while pedaling past an Altadena apartment building, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Friday.
Benita Hampton, 26, was shot in the back and Dollisini Braddock, 18, took a bullet in her foot when an unidentified man fired six shots at a crowd outside an apartment complex at 665 W. Altadena Drive, Deputy Hal Grant said.
The two women were standing with more than a dozen people when the gunman pedaled by on a “beach cruiser” about 8:35 p.m. Thursday, Grant said.
“As he rode by on his bike, he took a (semi-) automatic handgun and fired six shots,” Grant said. “Nobody recognized the gunman. He rode off on his bicycle.”
Both women were taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. Braddock, of Altadena, was listed in serious condition, Grant said. Hampton, of Los Angeles, was treated and released.
The motive for the shooting was not known.
