GIBRALTAR — The disputed British colony of Gibraltar will hold a general election March 24, the governor, Peter Terry, announced Friday.
The election will be the first chance for the territory’s 13,000 voters to have a say on Anglo-Spanish talks on the future of the militarily strategic Rock, claimed by Spain but in British hands since 1704.
An opinion poll six weeks ago gave a narrow lead to opposition leader Joe Bossano, a hard-line opponent of concessions to Spain, ahead of new Chief Minister Adolfo Canepa.
