An 8-year-old Granada Hills boy died Thursday after he was hit by a car, Los Angeles police said.
Matthew Melena was struck after he darted in front of the car near the corner of Haskell and Tulsa streets, police said.
The 2:25 p.m. accident occurred two blocks east of Tulsa Street Elementary School, where the boy was in third grade, Lt. Alan Kerstein said. Matthew was knocked unconscious and was later pronounced dead at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, Kerstein said.
The driver of the car was observing the 35-m.p.h. speed limit and “never even had an opportunity to brake,” Kerstein said. She was not charged in the accident.
