Smith International said it has completed the sale of $20 million of preferred stock to one of its major shareholders, Industrial Equity Pacific, in a private placement. The stock will yield 8.75% annually, and proceeds will be used for general operations, according to Loren Carroll, Smith International’s chief financial officer. Smith, a major oil services company, is headquartered in Newport Beach.
