USIU Error Gives Chapman Victory

Bill Rumsey made a three-base error on Chris Cutliff’s single in the eighth inning, allowing Cutliff to circle the bases and score the winning run as Chapman College defeated U.S. International, 6-5, in a college baseball game Wednesday at Chapman.
Cutliff was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Chapman (5-2), which led, 5-1, entering the eighth inning. USIU (3-5) scored four runs in the eighth to tie the game on a solo home run by Ray Plantier and a three-run shot by Pat Cheeks.
Mike Romberg (0-1) took the loss and Matt Patuano (1-0) got the victory in relief. Kevin Tahan a transfer from Stanford who attended Patrick Henry High School, was 3 for 5 with an RBI for USIU.
