Local News in Brief : Card Club to Be Razed
- Share via
The Golden West Club, a card club that was closed last summer after the building failed Gardena fire inspections, will be demolished to make way for a condominium project, according to a spokesman for the building’s owner.
Kirk Downing, a representative of club owner Tai-Yu Su, told the City Council that the structure at 14808 S. Western Ave. will be torn down. The condominiums will be built on the site and on adjacent land currently used for parking lots, he said.
After discussion, the City Council voted to change the zoning of the parking lots on 147th Street and 149th Street to residential use.
Until 1980, the Golden West was the site of the Normandie Club until the Normandie moved to its present location on Rosecrans Avenue.
