CBS posted a 20.6% increase in income to $452.5 million in 1987, largely because of cost-cutting measures. The New York-based company said its television stations and radio divisions achieved record profits and improved operating margins during the year, but that network revenue was hurt in 1987 by a flat advertising marketplace and the professional football players’ strike in October.
