Wieder and Sales Tax Idea
How about our chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors? Harriett M. Wieder has told a majority of voters in the county that they are stupid (“Sales Tax Idea,” Jan. 20). “They didn’t even know what they were voting for (on Proposition A),” she says.
For Wieder’s information, we knew exactly what we were voting for, and it was to put a lid on uncontrolled development. It doesn’t take a genius to know that had Proposition A received an affirmative vote, roads and freeways would have been built post haste, with development riding alongside. Even without Proposition A, the board has managed to create gridlock.
I hope that Wieder’s assessment of the mentality of Orange County is not shared by other board members. Do they have the fortitude to publicly denounce such an outrageous statement?
To those spearheading the slow-growth movement, beware of your dealings with the supervisors. To all voters who think Harriett Wieder may make an acceptable candidate for the U.S. Congress (should Rep. Daniel E. Lungren (R-Long Beach) be confirmed as state treasurer): You know in advance what she thinks of your ability to make a reasoned decision. She owes a public apology.
