College Baseball : Fullerton Defeats Stanford, 5-1

Paul Johnson gave up eight hits in eight innings to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 5-1 victory over Stanford Friday in a nonconference baseball game at Stanford.
Johnson (1-1), a junior right-hander, gave up eight singles, walked two and struck out two. He gave up an unearned run in the eighth.
Fullerton (3-3) scored three runs in the fifth. Brent Mayne walked and scored on a double by Shane Flores. Bobby Jones followed with a two-run home run, his first of the season.
Fullerton added a run in the eighth on a single by Greg Mannion, who moved to second on a fielder’s choice and scored on a single by Rex Peters. Fullerton’s Keith Kaub led off the ninth with his third home run of the season.
In other nonconference games:
UC Irvine 10, San Diego State 4--Don Nicholson had two hits and three RBIs to lead Irvine at SDSU. John Seeburger had a home run for Irvine (3-2). Rob Johnson pitched a complete game to get the victory.
Chapman 6, Cal State Long Beach 4--Dave Mayhall’s bases-loaded walk and Bucky Bollinger’s two-run single gave Chapman (4-1) a come-from-behind victory at Hart Park. John Eldred had given the 49ers a 4-3 lead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth.
Steve Halweg (2-0) got the victory with two innings of hitless relief; Matt Patuano pitched the ninth to earn a save for the third straight game.
