A Tragic End for Talented Artist
It’s sad to see the life of an artistic talent such as Michael Balog come to an end in such a tragic, unobtrusive way (Jan. 21). He had so much potential, so much ability, so much to offer. But as one associate said: “Ability is not a guarantee that you’re insulated from the terrors of the world.”
Whether drugs or mental illness or the pressures and intimidation of big-city life or commercial nonsuccess led to his ultimate downfall, we may never know.
He ended his life in a quiet, rustic setting, in the sage-covered hills above Ventura. This seemed to be a fitting environment for him to have said goodby to the world, as he always lived nature, whether it was the ocean of the canyons or the mountains.
Now, at least, he is at one with nature and at peace with himself.
