A surprise tender offer was launched for Manhattan Industries, a leading apparel maker linked to such designers as Perry Ellis, Anne Klein and Yves St. Laurent. The $80-million offer came from a munch smaller Salent Corp., a clothing maker that recently emerged from bankruptcy.
