Mike White, a 7-foot, 275-pound heavyweight, takes on Dee Collier, California state heavyweight boxing champion, tonight in a 12-round title fight in the main event of the monthly boxing program at the Irvine Marriott.
Collier (15-6) of Los Angeles lost a 10-round nontitle fight to White (19-6-1) of Long Beach in July at Irvine.
In the July fight, White dominated from the first round but was never able to knock down Collier (6-3, 235). The fight was supposed to be a title fight but was changed to a nontitle fight by Collier the day of the fight.
Heavyweight Dave Yonko of Long Beach will fight Dan Coats of San Jose in the semi-main event. Yonko (9-4) has five straight victories. Promoter Don Fraser has promised Yonko a main event appearence if he wins.
The first of six scheduled bouts starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets can can be purchased in the hotel’s main ballroom starting at 10 a.m. This is the start of the fourth year of boxing at the Marriott.
