The Hulton Picture Library, one of Europe’s largest commercial collections of photographs, engravings and maps, has been put on the sales block by the British Broadcasting Corp. Among the 10 million images included in the collection are several from World War II that had been censored by British authorities. No date has been announced for the sale but Ashley Hill, head of the BBC Secretariat, said in a letter in the Times of London: “The conditions of sale will stipulate that the collection is not broken up, remains accessible within the United Kingdom and retains its title.” The sale of the collection is expected to fetch as much as $8.85 million.
