Los Alamitos has regained the Sunset League championship, defeating Huntington Beach Edison, 26-21, tonight at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach.
Los Alamitos led for all but three minutes of the first quarter and, after seeing its lead cut to just five points with 4:01 remaining, controlled the ball for the rest of the game to prevent Edison from making a last-minute comeback.
Richard Turner was the star of the game for the Griffins, running for two touchdowns and catching a 77-yard touchdown pass. Nick Richardson rushed for over 150 yards and scored the game’s first points on a spectacular 57-yard run.
Quarterback Chase Favreau threw for over 200 yards and ran for a 10-yard touchdown for the Chargers, who could not quite overcome a 20-7 halftime deficit.
