Sprint offers case that gives iPod touch 3G capability

The iPod touch will soon get some 3G wings.
Starting Monday, Sprint will offer a case that untethers the second- and third-generation iPod touch from wireless hotspots and allows the devices to connect to the carrier’s 3G network.
Manufactured by ZTE, the Peel looks like a bulked-up protective case and comes with built-in wireless capability which supports up to two Wi-Fi enabled devices at the same time. Its battery allows for three hours of active use on a single charge. The device is the second offered for the iOS platform; in April Sprint released a 4G case for the iPad.
The Peel will retail for $79.99, with a $29.99 monthly data plan required from Sprint. One gigabyte of data will be included.
‘When combined with Sprint’s 3G network, ZTE Peel turns an iPod touch from a portable device limited by the availability of Wi-Fi to a mobility tool free to browse the Web and use applications anytime,’ Fared Adib, Sprint’s vice president of product development, said in a statement.
