Dodgers web musings: The wait for Eugenio Velez

We’re waiting …

That would be for the first hit of the season for the Dodgers’ Eugenio Velez. He is 0-for-21 and counting. And people are counting.

True Blue’s Eric Stevens said it’s the worst start to a Dodgers’ career for a position player since J.D. Drew went 0-for-25 in 2005. ESPN/LA’s Jon Weisman said only Jose Gonzalez finished a Dodgers season with a 0.00 average with more at-bats (28) before he was traded to the Pirates in 1991.

The real question is, why is Velez on this team? Weisman notes that if not for a 12th-inning single on May 18, 2010 while with the Giants, Velez would be in an 0-for-47 skid.
