WASHINGTON — President Reagan, who celebrates his 75th birthday today, joked with government workers Wednesday about his approaching a “mid-life crisis” and thinking of a career change.
The President made the comments as he toured the Treasury and Health and Human Services departments to sell his nearly trillion-dollar budget for fiscal 1987.
“I prefer to think of it as the 36th anniversary of my 39th birthday,” he said. “A few more of these and I’ll be due for a mid-life crisis.”
Reagan said he was “thinking of a career change” and that perhaps he would go into “radio or the movies.”
“I always think age is relative,” he said, recalling that famed baseball pitcher Satchel Paige, when asked his age, replied: “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?”
